This app is intended to be used to look up and learn language-supporting signs from the "UK-Gebärden Münsterland" (UKGM) system. The system consists of 263 signs suitable for everyday use and is intended to help people who have problems learning to speak to communicate with their relatives, friends and acquaintances. The app consists of three parts:
- A catalog to browse the signs and mark favorites
- A video player to watch the videos of the
signs - A trainer to learn the signs in two learning modes
This app expressly does not want to depict the German Sign Language (DGS). The DGS is aimed at people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The UKGM, on the other hand, target those people whose language acquisition is delayed or who only have a limited vocabulary. However, there are a few of these language-supporting sign systems in Germany. In the Münsterland they have therefore agreed on the UKGM.
If you want to learn the signs with the trainer, we recommend using the passive mode first. Here you will be shown videos of gestures and then have to answer which gesture it was. You then have to rate how difficult this question was for you. This increases or decreases your learning progress for this sign. Signs that you find difficult to answer are displayed more frequently. The active mode works the other way round: Here you have to make the gesture yourself and can then use the video to check whether you were right.
